We are seeking a reliable, customer-focused, and detail-oriented Postal Service Clerk to manage the daily operations of our mail processing and customer service counter. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting patrons with shipping needs, accurately weighing and pricing mail, selling stamps and postal products, and maintaining the efficiency and security of the mail sorting process. Key Responsibilities
Customer Service: Assist customers at the counter with shipping options, packaging requirements, postage rates, and general inquiries regarding mail delivery services.
Mail Processing: Receive, sort, and process outgoing mail, ensuring all items are correctly addressed, properly stamped, and ready for efficient dispatch by carrier teams.
Transaction Management: Accurately process payments for services, including postage sales, money orders, and shipping fees, maintaining balanced cash drawers daily.
Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous documentation of registered or insured mail, delivery logs, and internal inventory of postal supplies.
Safety & Security: Adhere strictly to postal regulations, privacy laws, and security protocols regarding the handling of sensitive mail and suspicious packages.
Operational Efficiency: Assist in maintaining an organized workspace, ensuring that processing equipment is functioning properly and that mail is staged according to established transit schedules.
Public Representation: Act as a helpful and professional representative of the postal service, providing clear explanations of policies and service standards to all visitors.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: 1–3 years of experience in retail, mail handling, customer service, or a high-volume clerical setting.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in using scales, postage meters, and computerized point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Ability to read and interpret complex zip code directories, shipping restrictions, and regulatory guidelines.
Basic math skills for calculating postage and managing financial transactions accurately.
Personal Attributes:
Exceptional Accuracy: Ability to handle repetitive tasks—such as sorting and weighing—with high precision to prevent delivery delays.
Patience & Composure: Capacity to maintain a helpful attitude when assisting customers, even during peak hours or when dealing with complex shipping issues.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and handle the physical requirements of sorting and moving mail containers.
Integrity & Trustworthiness: Demonstrated ability to handle mail, payments, and private information with the highest degree of reliability.
