Job Overview
We are seeking a forward-thinking Internet of Things (IoT) Lecturer to join our faculty and educate the next generation of engineers on the connected world. You will be responsible for teaching the end-to-end IoT ecosystem—from embedded sensors and hardware communication protocols to edge computing, cloud integration, and data analytics. Your goal is to empower students to build intelligent, interconnected systems that bridge the physical and digital realms.
Job Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Lead courses covering the full IoT stack: sensor technology, microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi), communication protocols (MQTT, LoRaWAN, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi), and cloud-to-device connectivity.
Curriculum Development: Design a comprehensive curriculum that balances theoretical foundations with hands-on experimentation, focusing on low-power design, network topology, and IoT security.
Hands-on Lab Management: Oversee electronics and networking labs where students design, prototype, and deploy IoT solutions, such as smart home devices, industrial monitoring systems, or wearable technology.
Research & Mentorship: Guide students through complex capstone projects involving real-world constraints like power management, signal interference, and latency. Mentor research at the intersection of IoT, AI (TinyML), and 5G.
Assessment & Evaluation: Create rigorous assessments—including hardware debugging challenges, protocol implementation tests, and system architecture projects—that test both technical skill and creative problem-solving.
Security & Governance: Integrate modules on IoT security, device authentication, data privacy, and the ethical management of massive sensor networks.
Industry Collaboration: Partner with hardware manufacturers and IoT service providers to ensure the curriculum reflects current industry hardware, APIs, and platform standards (e.g., AWS IoT, Azure IoT, Google Cloud IoT).
Job Requirements
Education: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (a PhD is strongly preferred).
Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in IoT development, embedded systems, or hardware engineering, combined with teaching experience at the tertiary level.
Technical Skills:
Hardware: Deep knowledge of microcontrollers (MCU), SoCs, and sensor interfacing.
Communication: Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP) and low-power IoT standards (LoRa, MQTT, CoAP).
Programming: Strong proficiency in C/C++ (for firmware) and Python (for edge/cloud integration).
Architecture: Understanding of edge computing paradigms and how they interact with centralized cloud infrastructure.
Soft Skills:
Practicality: A "maker's mindset"—the ability to troubleshoot hardware issues and build functional prototypes quickly.
Clarity: Ability to explain how a complex chain of data (from a physical sensor to a cloud dashboard) actually works.
Systems Thinking: Ability to see the "big picture" of how interconnected devices function as a single, cohesive network.
Innovation: A passion for exploring how IoT can solve real-world problems in agriculture, healthcare, smart cities, and manufacturing.
Benefits
Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary package with opportunities for research grants and industry consulting.
Cutting-Edge Labs: Access to modern electronics workshops, embedded development kits, and cloud infrastructure for IoT testing.
Professional Development: Support for attending major IoT and engineering conferences, publishing research, and attaining professional certifications.
Comprehensive Benefits: Full insurance coverage, academic leave, and retirement benefits in accordance with local labor laws.
Career Growth: Clearly defined paths to Tenured Professor, IoT Lab Director, or Lead Systems Architect in academic or industrial settings.
IoT Lecturer, Embedded Systems Instructor, IoT Systems Engineer (Education focus), Smart Systems Professor, Connectivity & Hardware Instructor.
Industry Keywords: MQTT, LoRaWAN, Microcontrollers, Embedded C, Edge Computing, Sensor Fusion, IoT Security, Cloud Connectivity, Hardware Prototyping.
Attributes: Innovative, Practical, Systematic, Tech-savvy, Creative, Analytical.
