We are seeking a physically robust, dependable, and safety-conscious Refuse and Recyclable Material Collector to join our waste management and environmental services team. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily collection, sorting, and transport of residential, commercial, and industrial waste, as well as recyclable materials. You will balance time-sensitive route schedules with strict adherence to urban sanitation and safety protocols, acting as a vital front-line representative for our public health operations. Key Responsibilities
Waste & Recycling Collection: Manually lift, carry, and empty refuse bins, recycling containers, and heavy bags from curbsides or commercial dumpsters into the collection vehicle.

Hopper & Packer Operation: Safely operate the mechanical packing, hydraulic lifting, and compacting mechanisms on garbage and recycling trucks to maximize cargo capacity.

Route Navigation Assistance: Assist collection drivers with route navigation, monitoring blind spots, and directing reversing maneuvers through narrow streets or busy traffic zones safely.

Material Sorting & Quality Control: Perform quick visual checks on recyclable materials to identify and separate non-recyclable contaminants before loading them into the truck.

Street Clearance & Cleanup: Clean up any loose debris, broken glass, or spilled waste around collection points immediately to ensure public spaces remain pristine and hazard-free.

Safety & Compliance Adherence: Strictly follow occupational safety standards, wear mandated high-visibility Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safely handle sharp objects or heavy materials.

Vehicle & Tool Post-Shift Maintenance: Clean and wash the vehicle interior and hopper at the end of each shift, report any mechanical defects, and properly store collection tools.

Requirements & Qualifications
Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience; basic certifications in workplace safety, occupational health, or hazardous materials handling are a plus.

Experience: 1–2+ years of experience in waste management, heavy manual labor, commercial moving, delivery assistance, or outdoor municipal services.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in operating manual transport gear and a basic understanding of truck hydraulic compactor controls.

Solid knowledge of regional waste disposal rules, recyclable material classifications, and hazard signs.

A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is a significant asset for career advancement within the logistics crew.

Personal Attributes:

Exceptional physical stamina and lifting power; capable of lifting 50–75 lbs repeatedly and remaining active on your feet outdoors in all weather conditions.

Strong situational awareness to navigate safely around moving traffic, heavy machinery, and volatile hazardous materials.

Highly reliable, punctual, and disciplined, with a proven ability to maintain focus during early morning shifts.

A proactive team player who communicates clearly and works smoothly under tight route completion deadlines.
