Probability and Statistics Lecturer
Job Overview
We are seeking an engaging and rigorous Probability and Statistics Lecturer to join our Department of Mathematics or Data Science. In this role, you will be responsible for providing students with a deep understanding of statistical theory, probabilistic modeling, and data-driven inference. Job Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Teach core modules covering topics such as probability distributions, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, Bayesian statistics, and stochastic processes.
Curriculum Development: Design and evolve course syllabi to integrate modern computational tools (e.g., R, Python, SAS, or SPSS), ensuring students can apply theoretical concepts to real-world datasets.
Assessment & Evaluation: Develop and grade rigorous assignments, examinations, and projects that challenge students to demonstrate both conceptual mastery and technical proficiency.
Research & Scholarship: Engage in active research within the field of statistics or probability, contribute to academic publications, and seek opportunities for scholarly collaboration.
Academic Mentorship: Provide guidance to undergraduate and graduate students on research theses, capstone projects, and navigating academic or industry career pathways.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work with faculty in other departments (e.g., Computer Science, Economics, Biology) to support their statistical education needs and promote data literacy.
Faculty Service: Participate in departmental meetings, committee work, and academic administrative duties to support the institution's mission.
Job Requirements
Education: Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field; a PhD in Statistics or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred.
Experience: Previous experience lecturing at the tertiary level, including the ability to manage large classes and facilitate smaller laboratory sessions.
Technical Skills:
Expert-level command of mathematical statistics and probability theory.
Strong proficiency in statistical programming languages (R, Python, or similar) and their application in data analysis.
Familiarity with modern teaching technologies (LMS, interactive online platforms, virtual whiteboards).
Soft Skills:
